Nate and I are doing okay this week, at home together. I guess you could say this is sort of an experiment for me in being a stay-at-home mom, except in addition to parenting and taking care of the house, I’m also trying to get in all of my end-of-summer marking and grading and planning for the fall semester, too. It’s challenging, to say the least.
My plans to do all kinds of fun things with Nate during our “staycation” have fallen rather flat so far. I hope next week will be a little bit more fun for us both. Today was better than the last two days have been (meaning we got to do some fun stuff and I didn’t spend all morning working), since this morning our good friends Erica and Avery came over to play. Nate and I have known Avery since she was a newborn, and they’ve been good buddies ever since Erica used to look after Nate starting when he was just 13 months old. Today Erica and I enjoyed our coffee and gabbed our faces off while the kids played in the living room, then the back yard, then the playroom in the basement. Avery knows me as the lady who gives her goldfish crackers. She and Nate shot at each other with water guns and snarfed hot dogs, then begged in unison for brownies. Sometimes being a mom is pretty awesome.
