Are you a mom? Do you enjoy an inspirational drink on occasion? Look no further! Mommy Mixology: A Cocktail for Every Calamity is a charming, humourous little book of drink recipes cleverly written by mother of three boys, Janet Frongillo of Muffin Top Mommy, with many recipes accompanied by cute photographs pairing delicious looking cocktails with the memorable moments of motherhood, spanning the years from conception to kindergarten.

The drinks are aptly named for all the milestones we mothers experience over the first few years of parenting.

Struggling through sleep training? Give the Sleeptastic Sangria a try. Wrestling with your toddler to kick the pacifier? Try a Bloody Binky! Potty training giving you a headache? The Cosmopotty will help you cope.

Each recipe includes a funny, personal story or anecdote that justifies the need for each drink. This passage, from the Sleeptastic Sangria recipe, is one that I could especially relate to, as it brought to mind memories of sleepless nights when Nate was a newborn:

Now I understand why the military employs sleep deprivation as a tactic to extract intel from the enemies. I contend (with my English degree and complete lack of scientific evidence) that it’s physiologically impossible to function safely and think clearly on a few hours of sleep coupled with vats of coffee for weeks on end…

As for me, our staycation that’s coming up seems like the perfect opportunity to try out a couple of these recipes (I’m looking at you, The Big Sloppowski)!

The next time I’m in the market for a baby shower gift, I’ll be adding Mommy Mixology to the gift basket (there are mocktails for pregnant moms, too). Follow Janet on Twitter for the latest scoop on her book and entertaining tweets about her family life.
