Lately, this is what breakfast looks like around our house.
After I drop Nate off at daycare, and before I begin my school work for the day, I wander around the back yard, water the flowers, deadhead the annuals, take a few photographs of the progress in the garden, and then gather the fruits of our labour out there. Morning seems to be the best time of day for picking strawberries; the birds and bugs have not yet had enough time to devour everything in sight! This is an everbearing variety of strawberry, so I am hopeful that we will continue to enjoy them throughout the summer. Nate loves looking for and eating strawberries (and pea pods and radishes and beets) in the garden, which is a huge chunk of my incentive to continue to grow food in our yard.

Yum! Now I really want some strawberries!
Thanks! Your comment reminded me, I have to go out and see if there are any ready to pick this morning. That is, if the birds haven’t eaten them all, already!
Those berries look so good…way better than the ones in the grocery store that seem to go bad the instant you get them home! Happy picking!
They have a different flavour, too, Kathy. I agree, homegrown (or locally grown) strawberries taste much better than the one you buy in the grocery store that are picked before they are sweet enough!
