A Toe (Project 366, Day 55)

Toddler Toe

by Amy on February 24, 2012

A few months back, Nate and I got up early, as we usually do, and when I turned on the kitchen light to make the coffee, pour the sippy cup of milk and make the oatmeal, Nate looked down at his feet.

“Oh, no. A toe,” he said. Sure enough, when I looked down at his foot, his big toe was sticking out of the foot of his pajamas. I couldn’t help but laugh…he had just begun to say a lot of new words and that sentence was one of the first he’d said accurately. I went around telling everyone what Nate had said that day. Listening to him learn to talk is one of my favourite things about being Nate’s mom. Graham and I get a real kick out of hearing him say new things, and we usually have a “debriefing” at the end of the day to tell each other the things he’s been saying. (My mom and dad’s version of this was known by them as “The Amy Show” when I was Nate’s age. I suppose what I am describing is The Nate Show.)

Tonight Nate looked down at his feet again, and noticed that his toe was once more poking out of the feet of his jammies. “Close,” he said. He wanted me to fix that foot. “Coming!” he said when he saw his toe protrude from the fabric. All evening he fiddled with that toe. Of course, we changed him into another pair of pj’s before putting him to bed. That would drive me crazy, too.

That would drive me nuts too! If my socks ever get a hole the pair goes directly into the trash! It is the most annoying feeling.

Oh I am so glad I’m not the only one who does that. I have been known to have many single socks just because their mate went into the trash because of one little hole. Now, I get that it’s not about THAT right now. But some day you can tell Nate, Amy, that others felt the same way. I must also mention, as I read your account of how you and Graham fill each other in about Nate’s antics at the end of each day, I thought how it sounds like The Amy Show. It is in syndication forever in my heart.
