DIY Indoor Sandbox

Nate's Indoor Sandbox

One day earlier in the week, I was desperate to find something to make Nate happy. I had just picked him up from daycare, where there is a fantastic, big sandbox out back, filled with the most important thing in Nate’s world right now: construction trucks. Getting him out of there is an exercise in frustration, let me tell you. He’d sleep with those trucks if we let him, I’m sure.

In any case, I decided to bring his favourite activity into the house for a few hours: the sandbox. I brought a bag of sand inside and dumped it into a low Rubbermaid container that has a lid. The container had been tucked beneath the futon in our play room, and I knew it was going to come in handy someday. I was right!

Nate seemed bothered whenever the sand got on the laundry room floor, so he helped take care of that little problem.

All evening Nate kept saying, “sand”. The indoor sandbox was a hit! The best part is that I can put the lid on it and tuck it away out of sight until we get desperate again.

Check out the little mop. He’s Gramma’s little hero.
