It’s amazing how quickly you can settle into a new routine.
It’s amazing how quickly things can change.
I was gone for four days and in that time, Nathan seemed to have aged so much more than that brief time should have allowed. And in the last week, he has continued to grow.
He is venturing to take the odd little step forward, one hand cautiously perched on a table or dining room chair.
He is staying awake for longer stretches, so we now have around four hours between his afternoon nap and his bedtime.
We take a walk in the evening together, and sometimes Graham comes with us, if he isn’t working late. It’s a peaceful time of day, especially now that the sun is beginning to set a little earlier and the world cools off in time for us to enjoy it a little bit.
Yesterday I noticed that some of the leaves on the maple trees in town have begun their gradual annual explosion of colour. The formerly green tips of the branches are slowly being replaced by vibrant oranges, firey reds.
The last time those leaves made their transformation, Nathan was still inside of me. Now he’s here, standing, almost walking alongside of his mommy. It’s his second autumn, but the first he’ll experience with all of his senses aware.
Like the trees, with wonder I will watch him glow.

What a sweet post. I look at mine and still can’t believe how fast they’ve grown. One just turned 6 and the other will be 3 in October. *sigh*
