Wow, it’s Friday, already? I don’t know where this week has gone. It seems like it was just yesterday that my two favourite guys came together to pick me up at the airport in Toronto. I haven’t even done what you’d consider a “proper” recap about my trip to New York. In all honesty, there might not be one. Instead, I’m writing a few shorter posts about my time there, including the Thursday evening gathering of bloggers at the offices of Martha Stewart.

I’ve had mixed feelings about Martha over the years. At times I have resented her drive for perfection (what woman hasn’t?). At other times, I’ve admired the fact that she’s built her simple interest in homemaking into a multi-million dollar empire. It is amazing what she has accomplished.
“Do you think she has people who come up with all those decorating and cooking ideas for her?” my mom recently asked. “Yes, Mom, of course she does.” Mom said she thought it would be such a shame to be one of the creative talents working at
The offices of MSLO looked to me like a place that would be amazing to work at. They weren’t over-the-top fancy. In fact, the bare bones feel of the main work space in which a maze of cubicles spread out was spectacular in its simplicity. The basic white of the place, the air of organization, and the obvious pride with which every employee I saw went about their business led me to believe that working at MSLO is a pretty sweet gig. Clear away the clutter and who knows what creativity might spring forth?
I’m still not sure how I managed to snag an invite to Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia’s Bloggers’ Night Out event. Maybe MSLO mined the BlogHer network’s list of blogs that are categorized as Home & Garden sites. Regardless of the reason, there was no way I was going to pass up the opportunity to see where Martha works.
I went to the event with Leah, fellow writer at A Boy and a Girl. She was a fabulous date!
The party took place in the back hall of what appeared to be the props department. There was a section for weddings, crafts, cooking, gardening, pets and home improvements.

Bloggers were encouraged to sample or try their hand at the products that were on display at each station.

Leah tries her hand at the paper punch at the crafty table.
All of the food that was served (fresh out of nearby test kitchen ovens, no doubt) was featured in the current issues of Martha Stewart Living or Everyday Food.

Basil Lillet Slush. Vodka and basil never tasted so good.
There were stacks of building supplies, plywood, doors, windows and ceramic tile down that back hallway. I peeked into a window and saw a dim room where rows of chairs and tables were stored high up on shelves that lined the walls. It was, in a word, fascinating.
Oh, and you-know-who was there, too…

(Read Martha’s recap of the event at her site, The Martha Blog, today, too!)

I’ve met Martha at an event before and she wasn’t as scary as I thought she could be. Looks like a fun blogger event.
I went, wouldn’t have missed it for the world. I spent my time with Maggie and enjoyed our time. Perhaps my favorite, having missed Martha, was watching the sun set over the water through those wonderful rectangular panes.
