Is it just me, or are s’mores everywhere right now? They seem to be the hottest dessert item there is these days. Before I go ahead and assume that everyone knows what s’mores are, I’ll describe my ideal version of a s’more.
Take two fat, fresh graham crackers. Make them toasty warm over a campfire or over the open grate of a woodstove by placing them on a metal flipper or spatula and exposing them to the heat. Place a square of milk chocolate on one of the graham crackers to melt in place. Take a roasted marshmallow and smush it into the other graham cracker. Now put both halves together and squish. Mmmmm. The perfect sweet sandwich.
I noticed s’mores all over the place in New York City, of all places. There were no campfires or woodstoves to be found, but everywhere I looked, there were s’mores.
At the Martha Stewart Omnimedia Bloggers’ Night Out event (more on that to come!), there was an entire station devoted to making s’mores. I took a photograph of them with my iPhone and sent it to my friend Jen, who had a recent fixation on them. “OMG,” she texted back, “Delicious.” (Martha’s recipe for s’mores can be found here.)

The next day, Laurin and I ventured out for some sightseeing after breakfast and found ourselves at Crumbs. The cupcake of the month for August is the S’mores Cupcake. Although I opted for the Caramel Apple and Artie Lange cupcakes, the S’mores cupcake tempted me. I mean, LOOK AT IT. A thing of beauty.

Have you seen any s’mores lately?

There was a s’mores suite at BlogHer!
mmmmmmmmmmm
I saw the sign there but by then I was so tired I couldn’t make it down that hallway. Damn!
We New Yorkers love our s’mores! We make them on the grill!
Oh, so it’s a New York thing, is it? We have a little fire pit out back we could make them on. Or the barbeque. I’ll have to try that sometime!
You’re not going to believe this, but TODAY is National S’mores Day: http://blogs.laweekly.com/squidink/desserts/national-smores-day-round-up/
I make mine by roasting the ‘mallow over the gas stove.
Ha! You’re right, I had no idea! Funny timing…
The suite at BlogHer was amazing. You could make your own s’mores and I swear I have never had a fresher graham cracker or marshmallow….ever! I got to bring home all the fixing for them from the suite, but hubby took the stuff away from me saying our fireplace in the back will be done soon and we can make them then. *pout*
I just came back from Chicago and there were all kinds of smores on restaurant menus and I was shocked! They are delicious but never heard of them being served anywhere but beside a campfire!
I love that you had s’mores at a party. I’ve always had them camping cuz nothing goes better with roasted marshmallows than chocolate and graham crackers.
But I learned something from my friend. Her son can’t have dairy and s’mores are his new treat. There is no dairy in s’mores (as long as she buys the right kind of chocolate). I think that’s really special for him.
